Here is some sketch of one of the main characters, Mei. I just decide to take a hyper-realistic take on her and see what she would look like if she were to made in 3D or realist approach. Of course, I cannot put this kind of style into the current Kapow Express Manga. Because it would take forever. This one took me about two hours or so. The process is very confusing because I forgot to merge some of the steps so... sorry guys. It's unfinished as usual. Mei, Kapow Express Manga Comics:

This one is a really quick color sketch mark-up just to get some idea out. It is still lacking of many refine stage element. Mazinger Z (マジンガーZ, Majingā Zetto?), known as Tranzor Z in North America, is a manga series by Go Nagai, serialized in Shueisha Shōnen Jump from October 1972. December of the same year, an anime adaptation premiered on Fuji Television. The TV series ended September 1, 1974, outliving its manga counterpart. Mazinger Z is a gigantic Super Robot, constructed with a fictitious metal called Chogokin Z (literally Super-Alloy Z), which is forged from a new element mined from a reservoir found only in the sediment of Japan's Mt. Fuji. The mecha was built by Professor Juzo Kabuto as a secret weapon against the forces of evil, represented in the series by the Mechanical Beasts (mecha used for evil purposes) of Dr. Hell. Final speedpainting of Mazinger Z cinematic color sketch concept: 1) Random big shapes to create some form of silhouette with some idea in mind. 2) Refine establishing shapes, as you can see, two huge sky scrapers and a robot form in the middle. 3) Refine the shape of the Giant Robot, Mazinger Z. 4) Established and separate foreground, mid, and background. Create illusion of depth using values. Also define the detail of the foreground, the two big skyscrapers. 5) Assign quick color scheme. Try to think cool and warm instead of just color. 6) Rearrange colors and values, clean up and quickly refine lighting. 7) Final color sketch: Mazinger Z I hope you guys enjoy the process. :) Coming UP NEXT time If you want to add more to the list of Retro Robots go to: cool Retro Giant Robot.
